A Place of Rest

'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.'

‭‭- Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬

What are the two characteristics that God uses to describe Himself?

Gentle and humble.

Gentle is God being able to deal with us compassionately, calmly, and patiently. He does not respond with wrath or retribution, rather He is full of sympathy and understanding.

Now humility...

God is humble, easy to approach and has a welcoming presence. You need only a willing heart to engage with Him. He is not concerned with what you will or will not bring to the table.

These two facets of God's character helps us understand who God is, which helps us develop a proper view of Him, that edifies our relationship with Him. In other terms, knowing what God is like helps mature our faith.

How about what we should feel when we come into God's presence?

...Rest.

Connecting with God should be a place we long to go for reprieve when we are tired and weary. It should be a place of security that we can sink into. Where we can breathe easy gaining strength to endure, or faith to carry on.

Not a place of burden.

Not a place of weight.

...A place of rest.
